Fujiko Nakaya was born in 1933 in Sapporo / Japan. In 1957 she completed her art degree at Northwestern University in Illinois / USA. She then studied painting in Paris and Madrid. In 1960 she returned to Tokyo, where she continues to live and work today. In addition to painting, drawing and video, her work includes more than 90 fog sculptures, which challenge traditional notions of sculpture as a medium.
